Gleecap: S3E12 – The Spanish Teacher

Yes/No | Michael

This episode was perhaps long overdue given the rich musical Hispanic culture and of course the show acknowledges the demographic trend.

  • I do not think it was particularly believable that Will has a Spanish problem because we have seen him teaching before (can he really not know the meaning of orejas? And mixing up your de and your que is a rookie mistake) but who is keeping track. Although he -has- been teaching for two and a half years by this point.
  • Of course the big star was Ricky, making a huge comeback since he took a break in 2007. Anybody who remembers the French 1998 World Cup will remember La Copa De La Vida, and a now openly gay and overwhelmingly stubbled Ricky was able to bring some of that duende back in “Sexy and I Know It”. He was, and we all knew it.
  • I am SO. BORED. by the Samcedes and Finnchel storyline. Samcedes must have been written into Chord’s contract or something. I’d rather watch some ads during those parts. Not talking for a week is a HORRIBLE idea to actually test what they feel for each other. Try the exact opposite.
  • Can synchro swimming coach Nene Leakes be -too- black? What is up with that blonde hair? Let’s just say I do not envy Michael Phelps.
  • What does Emma teach?? Pamphlet making?? And is there such a thing as tenure in public high schools?
  • It was cool to see los b.v.e.’s making an appearance but it isn’t really an American Latino thing and is kind of hard to dance with.
  • It is interesting that both Cheerio captains complained on the two teachers. I think Sue should have been harder on Becky, but that’s probably because I’m a heartless moneygrubbing capitalist.
  • Naya was again strong in her acting but her duet with Ricky didn’t really give her much of a chance to show off her voice. But it was probably a dream come true for her anyway.
  • It is a good thing Darren Criss is still on Broadway. His superconfident whiteness wouldn’t have been good in a Spanish solo, although he would probably have did a better job with “A Little Less Conversation”.
